"Andy"
(Don Dixon)

Andy was a dancer
He loved the life he lived
After fifteen years of prancing he got good at what he did
He had a way with women
(he listened to their lies)
But he could live without them 'cause he had a way with guys

She’s looking for Andy
He's looking for Andy
Let's holler for Andy
He's messing around

He thought the constitution was written just for men
He phoned a politician to proposition him
The politician answered with courtesy and speed
"For proper contributions
I’ll even let you lead"

Ain't no doubt about it
There ain't no doubt at all
Andy’s favorite party is in a restroom stall

She’s looking for Andy
He's looking for Andy
Let's holler for Andy
He's messing around

"Angel Open"
(Don Dixon)

Daylight dancing
Silver shadow
Angel open
Fly away
Taste the beginning
Look east to the sunrise of a new day

Run your hands through your hair
Look in the mirror
Let me wipe away that smile
I'm not kidding I can live without you for a while
Put your hand on the phone
Dial my number
I can imitate your style
I'm not kidding when that bell starts ringing
My heart starts pounding
My legs start shaking
I won't answer
"I can live without you for a while"

Magic moment
Silky shudder
Satin devil
Fade away
Polish your endings & salvage the capsize of the lost days

"Bring It On"
(Don Dixon)

Yes they called us bleeding hearts
When they saw us begin to march
Hear them whisper to their wives
"Watch these virgins dance for their lives"
Bring it on home

As the pistol bullets flew in the sawdust
We were through
Hear us singing "I see the light"
Watch us dancing right through the night
Bring it on home

See the hate begin to crawl
Push our faces up against the wall
See our armies go underground
As our heaven turns upside down
Bring it on home

"Can't Buy A Song"
(Don Dixon)

Can't I buy a song?
Nice words
A tune to hum
With background voices of oohs & uums

Can't I break a glass?
Sparkle-splatter
A messy scare
With tiny slivers you can't see there

Can't I sell my soul
Smoke-fire
A burning balm
With flaming tridents thrust through my palms

Can't I buy a song?

"Dying to Know"
(Robert Kirkland)

Take my rest in your arms
No longer a test, now you’re warm
Heard you speaking a softer word
Can’t believe the things, the things that I’ve heard

Now I am racking my brain
Trying to figure the change
I’m no longer the same
It feels so good, yet so strange
If I had died yesterday
No one would really half cared
But that’s long before we said
What we both had to share

YouI’ve been a wild one for a while
But I still know how to make you smile
The kind of smile that I’m talking about
Is the one that you do when no one else is around

And I’m dying to know
What makes your energy flow
And I’m dying to show you
What my heart already knows

Take my rest in your arms
The longer it takes, now you’re warm
Heard you speaking a softer word
Still can’t believe the things that I’ve heard

Now I am racking my brain
Trying to figure a change
I’m no longer the same
It feels so good, yet so strange
If I had died yesterday
No one would really half cared
But that’s long before we said
What we both had to share

"Eyes On Fire"
(Don Dixon)

In the beginning you needed me so
Unhappy endings
They come & they go
Wait 'til tomorrow (that's all I can say)
Beg steal or borrow (don't throw it away)
When I first met you my time was my own
I won't forget you for leading me home
But when I look into your face
I see you staring into space

Eyes on fire
Don't you know that you're burning?
Taking
Never returning all the things you've been learning
Don't you know when the thrill is gone?
You're all alone & on your own
Keep on playing the games
But you'll forget how it seems
To be so happy just to be near the flames
Eyes on fire

In the beginning you played on my side
Unhappy endings were easy to hide
Wait 'til tomorrow (you knew where to stop)
Beg steal or borrow (all those pills that you pop)
When I first met you I’d kill for your smile
I won't forget you
Your blood on the tile
I didn't know you couldn't stand
Your body burning up again

Eyes on fire
Don't you know that you're burning?
Taking
Never returning all the things you've been learning
Don't you know the thrill is gone?
Eyes on fire

"Final Nickel"
(Don Dixon)

Well I took my final nickel
And walked up to this clown
I said, "Please weigh this banana"
He said, "It's nineteen cents a pound"
Gee I sure was hungry so I told him nice & slow
"All I got is this here nickel"
He said, "I guess you'll have to go"

I believe that there's too much spent
On a piece of vinyl to keep your ears content
I believe in kissing dogs
In making music & fixing chords
And fixing cords

Well I flipped my final nickel
And walked out of his store
Into the heat of main street
And a thousand people more
I was approached by some poor vagrant
Who was begging for a dime
I just held up my nickel
He said he'd try some other time

I believe that there's too much spent
On impressing voters for the president
I believe in fields & streams
In the box of Q-tips that keep my tape heads clean

"Just Rites"
(Don Dixon)

The sun was fading
The smell of love in the air
When I passed her I knew something was there
Tried to catch her but she got lost in the crowd
Tried to call her but the music was loud
Checked out the tables
The people on the dance floor
Searched my memory for the clothes that she wore
A yellow sweater & some faded blue jeans
Dingy sneakers & expensive earrings
Like a detective
And that was my evidence that she existed
that she was in present tense
Ahe had caught me like a fish in a net
She didn't know it
She hadn't checked her catch yet

Just right for tonight (so young & so hot)
Don't care if it takes all the money I’ve got
Ain't got the time
Got nothing to say
But I’ll lie awake & think about her someday

The club was closing
The bouncer told me to go
I was reluctant & I politely said so
He grabbed my shoulder & threw me right through the door
I hollered "thank you!"
He called my mother a whore
It'd been a bad night
It shouldn't end up like this
It'd been a bad night
I needed someone to kiss
Then just like magic (as I was rubbing my head)
I heard some laughter & then a gentle voice said
"Come on get up
Been trying to find you all night"
I saw her smiling as she stepped into the light
She held her hand out & we both started to grin
We had that one night
I never saw her again

Just right for tonight

"North End Of Town"
(Robert Kirkland)

I was counting on an evening filled with loving and romance
Even tried to make it up with a second chance
You were kind as you could be; your friends were hangin’ ‘round
But I wish I’d spent the night back on the north end of town

One thing is for certain, I can’t sleep on this here couch
Knowing you’re beside him somewhere else in this old house
Gotta keep a light on, but it’s burning oh so bright
And it’s raining harder in my heart than outside tonight

Barnyard!

I’ll be leaving town tomorrow, you won’t see me here no more
I don’t blame you, it’s just something we must both ignore
Maybe you could lend a smile, or just frown upside down
Still I wish I’d spent the night back on the north end of town

I was counting on an evening filled with loving and romance
Even tried to make it up with a second chance
You were kind as you could be; your friends were hangin’ ‘round
Still I wish I’d spent the night back on the north end of town
Yes I wish I’d spent the night back on the north end of town
Yes I wish I’d spent the night back on the north end of town

Oh yeah!

"Nothing to Fear"
(Robert Kirkland)

You’ve been at my door many times
But you never enter.
You were lookin’ for the party crowd
They were all upstairs.
The expression on your face each time
Was one of sad surrender.
No good reason why you should be there.

You’ve been seeing yourself every time
You hear a sad song.
And the meaning isn’t really quite so clear.
Identifying not with the party that was done wrong
Soon you know that soon it all comes here.

I am your Conscience and I am your Heart
Your searchings will all end up here.
I know the feelings that tear you apart.
Soon there’ll be nothing to fear.

Depression, guilt and all the other
Realms of unbearables
Are takin’ their toll and
They chain you up to the fence.
Discretion always gets out of hand
When you’re untouchable.
And the rain in Spain
Falls mainly on the plants

You put a hold on the situations
That could hurt you.
Kept your distance now
For much too long.
Been careful not to let anything,
Anyone divert you.
Soon you know these chains will all be gone.

I am your Conscience and I am your Heart
Your searchings will all end up here.
I know the feelings that tear you apart.
Soon there’ll be nothing to fear.

"Pitchin' Woo"
(Robert Kirkland)

I see your face in every picture of the day
Don’t know what I’m doing
Having never felt this way
Took me right into your soul
First time we made love
Now I’m cryin’ out for more
I’ll never get enough

Call me any time you want me
Any time at all
Waitin’ never hesitating
Right outside your door
Know I’m acting like a child
But somehow I don’t care
Can’t you see I’m lonely?
Can’t you see I’m getting scared?

You left your mark upon me
In a lot more ways than one
Most of them will fade
But still the others linger on

I can hide my feelings
So that no one catches on
What good does it do
When I’m alone it’s just for fun

I see your face in every picture of the day
Don’t know what I’m doing
Having never felt this way
Love is never clear at first
And we all play the game
Even though you try to stop
It always hurts the same

"Praying Mantis"
(Don Dixon/Phyllis Glasgow)

I saw a girl
She reminded me of you
She did the things that a girl like you might do
Her body was green & she had two vicious jaws
She polished her mate as she kissed him with her claws
I'll survive
It was on TV
She had six strong legs & it frightened me
She had insect eyes
But I could still see that the look she gave him
You give to me

I feel like a praying mantis
I sense your antics but i can't help it
I’ve been too frantic too long

She bit off his head
So he would not feel the pain
She wanted his body so much she ate his brain
I’ll survive
No you won't catch me
I’ll resist the urge that is tempting me
I’ll avert my eyes
Keep you off my knee
But it feels so good when you talk to me

I feel like a praying mantis
I sense your antics but i can't help it
I’ve been too frantic too long

"Slaughtered Elves"
(Robert Kirkland)

Gonna change my name
‘Cause someone else
Is getting all my mail.
Can’t even stop to catch my breath
They’d throw me in the jail.

You ask me for a smoke
You say you need some nicotine
I’m Sorry but I left my pack
Back there in the machine
Sick and tired of playing jobs
Where no one knows my name.
Seems from all the beer they sell
they’d ask me back again
But, no, you have to sell yourself
just like some damn cocaine
And on top of that they think
that everybody sounds the same

Yes it’s a great day coming
When the wind will cease to blow
There’ll poison ivy hanging
Where there once was mistletoe
and there’s nothing you can do
to keep the hot from turnin’ cold
‘cause its written on my t-shirt
And I knew you’d want to know.

No one knows just what’s in store
they’d rather close their eyes.
I’m gonna tell you this once more
Your gonna to be surprised.
When rain falls down and ruins your town
And makes you move away, away
When all these things have happened
It’s too late for you to pray

It’s 4 am and I’m not tired
‘Cause sleep has ceased to come.
Now the joint is clearing out
Got one more stick of gum

It’s sad I know to be so weird
You can’t control yourself
But if I had a long white beard
I’d slaughter all my elves.

Yes it’s a great day coming
When the words will cease to flow.
There’ll be no more Harry Reasoner,
And no more Dick Cavett Show.
And there's nothing you can do
To keep the hot from turning cold.
‘Cause its written on my tee shirt
And I knew you’d want to know.

‘Cause its written on my tee shirt
And I knew you’d want to know
Want to know
Want to know . . . want to know. . . oooohhh

"Southside Girl"
(Don Dixon)

She was fifteen
Quiet and lean
Digging the music
Making the scene
People would stare at her long golden hair
My baby's in black
Was the color she'd wear

She was so fine that after a time
I found myself hoping she would be mine
She spotted my plan
Did not understand
She thought I was crazy holding her hand

When I first saw her my heart did flips
Feel our first kiss still burning my lips
Holding her near
Year after year
My Southside girl

I called upon her mother
She told me "there's another
Why don't you just quit and go home?"
I thought for just a minute
I knew that if was in it
I said "I’ll never go home alone"

When I first saw her my heart did flips
Feel our first kiss still burning my lips
Holding her near
Year after year
My Southside girl

"Two Good Legs"
(Robert Kirkland)

Most people wake up to breakfast
Every morning day
Others wake up to nothing
They get by okay
Most men wake up with women
Lying by their side
Others wake up to nothing
Can’t be satisfied

I got two good legs to stand on
Two good hands that play
Two dollar bills that’ll last me
You to show me the way
You to lead the way

Never much of a picker
Somehow I got by
Two guitars in the closet
Still I don’t know why
Crazy days I remember
Tryin’ to get through school
Guess that I always did figure
Things would turn out cool

I got two good legs to stand on
Two good hands that play
Two dollar bills that’ll last me
You to show me the way
You to lead the way

I drink too much for my own good
Wake up pretty raw
One day I’ll learn how to savor
The best drink of them all

I got two good legs to stand on
Two good hands that play
Two dollar bills that’ll last me
You to show me the way
You to lead the way

I was toolin' down the street

I almost had a collision..with a
